Step-by-Step: Getting an Emergency Passport From All Cities

  1. Confirm the 14-day rule applies. International travel within 14 calendar days (or 28 days if a visa is required) qualifies you for emergency processing.
  2. Choose your path. Government agency appointment if you can get one; State Department-registered private expediter if you can't.
  3. Gather documents. Proof of citizenship, valid photo ID, passport photo, proof of imminent travel (flight itinerary or cruise booking), and completed DS-11 or DS-82 form.
  4. Apply. In person at the agency, or through your expediter — do not mail expedited applications.
  5. Pay fees. $130 book fee + $60 execution fee + $60 expedite fee + $19.53 overnight shipping. Private expediters add their own service fee.
  6. Receive your passport. Same day or next business day at the agency; 24–72 hours via a private expediter.
